Mariana Cottier-Bucco is originally from Venezuela and came to the United States at six years old. It was then that she started to the play the violin, under the instruction of Irina Schuck. At age 13 she enrolled in the studio of Lee Snyder at the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia, where she was accepted into their Advanced Studies program. Through the Settlement Music School, she participated in master classes with Ivan Chan, Soovin Kim and Pamela Frank.

Cottier-Bucco was a 2010 Sphinx Competition Junior Division Semi-finalist and a 2011 Sphinx Competition Senior Division Semi-finalist. Through the scholarship that the Sphinx organization provided, she attended the Aspen Summer Music Festival in 2010, 2011, and 2013, where she studied with Paul Kantor, Alexander Kerr, David Halen and Masao Kawasaki.

In 2014, Cottier-Bucco earned her Bachelor of Music at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Prior to joining the orchestra full time in September 2015, she was a Dallas Symphony Orchestra/Jaap van Zweden Scholar
