Daniel Florio
Daniel Florio joined the Dallas Symphony Orchestra percussion section in 1996, has served as Acting Principal Percussionist for the 09/10 and 18/19 seasons, and was appointed Associate Principal Percussionist in 2019 by music director Fabio Luisi. Florio received degrees from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the Eastman School of Music and went on to serve as Principal Percussionist of the Canton Symphony and Erie Philharmonic and as percussionist with the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra. Florio has performed as guest percussionist with the orchestras of San Francisco, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Columbus, Fort Wayne, Louisville, Buffalo and Rochester and has presented percussion clinics at universities throughout the country as well as at the Royal College in Stockholm. As part of the Dallas Symphony Pops series, he has performed on drum set with such artists as Judy Collins, Arlo Guthrie, Marvin Hamlisch, Patti Lupone, Martin Short, the Smothers Brothers and (a personal high point) Willie Nelson.
